GLOBAL FINALS WEEK

It's Here! Wisconsin's teams are going to put on an amazing show, and I'll be there watching as many performances as I can. Each day I'll try to send an update with either photos or text, so watch and see what pops up.

SATURDAY EVENING: Closing Ceremony was Awesome!! The whole place was just electric. As far as awards, it seemed to be Texas' year for getting awards, but a couple of Wisconsin teams managed to take 1st place, and many were in the top ten. A job well done. Check out the national website for results. --  Much discussion was evident about next years challenges, especially Challenge B. I look forward to seeing creative minds tackling them.

SATURDAY: The end of competition is upon us. Another day of great performances by Wisconsin teams. Beloit had a wonderful presentation in Triple Take Roadshow. -  But now comes the ultimate time of judgement, how did all the Wisconsin teams fare against the rest of the states and countries from around the world. Tonight we find out at Closing Ceremonies.

FRIDAY: More competition. It's amazing, all the Wisconsin teams look great. Challenge A,they were all on their game. The teams in the Structure Callenge were just as impressive. I can't wait until tomorrow and see what Challenge B teams are like. -- A fuller description of next year's challenges are updated below. Here are some pictures from regional teams competing today: Waunakee, Lake Geneva and Badger/Orange Crush.

THURSDAY: Competition begins. The Sacred Heart EL Mythology Mission team had an excellent performance. Even though they're competing against the best from around the globe, I think they will prove one of the strongest teams. -- Had a great time talking to a team from Poland, we traded some pins, and got to watch their performance. When international teams come here they have to perform (or translate somehow) to english. And this team did it very well.  --         --  Sometimes one wonders how the teams have time to compete with all the activities that are available to them, but the Wisconsin teams are coping splendidly.

WEDNESDAY: Opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 CDT. If you'd like to watch the live feed of opening and closing ceremonies, go to the National DI website and click on "Live Feed". --  We've heard that 51 of the 52 team members from the Joplin area will come to compete. Hurray!

TUESDAY 6:00 a.m.: We're off. Only seven hundred miles to go. -- After an 11 hour drive, we're in Knoxville. The news around here is that there were a number of teams coming to Globals from the Joplin, Mo. area. With the tornado that ripped through that community this week, everyone is praying for them and hoping is all well for the families. We hope some can still make it and experience all the excitement that is Globals.

Congratulations - Area Teams Going To Globals

It was a long day at the State Tournament for some teams, but the payoff for six of those teams is a chance to represent Wisconsin at the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, TN. Is this exciting or what?

The Starbursts from Lake Geneva took first place in the Middle Level Challenge A, Unidentified Moving Object. And the Orange Crush, also out of Lake Geneva took second place in the Secondary Level also in Challenge A. Not to be outdone, the Elementary level team from Beloit Schools garnered a second place finish in Challenge C, Triple Take Road Show. And also in Challenge C, Team Mehlhoff from Waunakee took first place in the Secondary Level. In elementary level Challenge D, the Spartan Superstars from Sacred Hearts School in Sun Prairie showed why they are superstars by placing second. And last, but not least, the KMS-AID team from Kromrey Middle School in Middleton got an Outstanding rating in the Middle Level Project Outreach Challenge and earned a trip to Globals.

We congratulate all the teams that represented our regionals at state, you did an excellent job and made all of us - parents, teachers, directors - proud of the creativity you demonstrated.
